Authorised Economic Operator

Authorised Economic Operator

What is an A.E.O?

An Authorised Economic Operator may be defined as a trustworthy economic operator for customs transactions (safe or reliable operator for the remaining parties in the supply chain) benefitting from the advantages of being an AEO across the European Union

The European Commission also expects the status of Authorised Economic Operator to be recognised not only within Europe but in addition worldwide, through International customs agreements.

Legal framework

The Authorised Economic Operator status entered into force on 1st January 2008. The rules governing the AEO may be found in the Regulations of the European Commission published to date.
